Peles Empire refers to both a curatorial team (Katharina Stoever and Barbara Wolff), an ongoing artwork, and two galleries – one in London and one in Cluj. Each incarnation of Peles Empire involves reproducing a room from the Romanian castle Peles in the Carpathian mountains which is distinguished by a clash of different architectural styles including art deco, rococo, renaissance and gothic.

For their exhibition 3D 2D 3D 2D at Camberwell Space, Peles Empire covered the walls and ceiling with blown up reproductions of this room, creating another stage in a sequence of ever deteriorating copies. In this modified gallery an exhibition of contemporary art was curated and by Stoever and Wolff.

The publication that accompanies the exhibition references the themes of Peles Empire in a number of ways. Its tall page shape is in a classical format corresponding to the golden ratio. The cover features details of photographs from a previous installation blown up to the point that the half-tone is visible. The mix of black and white paper and high gloss colour copies that the installations make use of is reflected in the publication by a mix of gloss and matt paper and 4 colour and black printing. Typographically the publication combines neo-classical Warnock Pro and geometric custom titling to reflect the stylistic clashes of the original Peles room.
